授業の目的  
In order to enhance the sustainability of society, it is important not only to strictly protect the natural environment but also how to proceed with its use. Biosphere Reserves by UNESCO's "Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme" are expected as a framework for that. For the goal of becoming a human resource useful for solving regional problems, this course provides an opportunity to learn about the mechanisms of BR and related systems, problems that may occur in utilization, and hints on solution.

1) Outline of the system of Biosphere Reserves under the UNESCO's MAB Programme
2) Trends in the BR system in the world and Japan
3) Examples for BRs of Japan that governed by single municipalities
4) Examples for BRs of Japan that managed by multiple local governments
6) Various systems to enhance a society in harmony with nature -1
7) Various systems to enhance a society in harmony with nature -2
8) Utilizing the system; problems and hints for solution
 
授業時間外の学修内容
（項目説明）授業全体を通して授業前に予習すべき内容、授業後に復習すべき内容を示しています。単位は、授業時間前後の予習復習を含めて認定されます。  
1) Pay attention to media reports on circumstances and people's efforts in local areas.
2) When visiting an area rich in natural environment by traveling etc., drop in at the governmental office and find out how they position the natural environment in the administration.
3) In order to achieve both nature conservation and regional promotion, imagine that you were in various positions and think about what actions you could.
 
履修目標

1) Students will be able to explain about outlines of the BRs and related systems.
2) Students will be able to explain the advantages and disadvantages of top-down and bottom-up processes with examples.
