This course surveys some prevalent theories of international production and the activities of transnational corporations in the world economy. After reviewing the conditions which have led to the growth of transnational activities in the past few decades, we will focus on the theories of foreign direct investment and multinational corporations which are responsible for such activities. The Hymer and Kindleberger approach, the product cycle model, internalization approach and some other theories will be taken up to be discussed in this course.
