Students will be able to write an expository essay of at least 2 pages that contains a clear thesis statement, coherent and cohesive introductory, body, and concluding paragraphs, as well as in-text citations and a bibliography. Additional essay level writing skills will also be developed.

The homework for every class is preparation for the next class. Students must first review what was learned in the previous class, and then do all assigned homework which will be uploaded before the next class. Homework will consist of reading, writing, and revising activities.

By the end of the course, students will be able to write an academic essay with an effective introduction that clearly states the thesis statement, a conclusion that clearly summarizes all the main ideas, state logical claims that are all supported by concrete evidence, accurately cite and reference all sources without errors, and demonstrate sound and effective critical analysis.

Students will spend most of their time working in pairs and small groups during much of the course. Peer review will be a major part of the class as students work together reviewing and editing their work. Class time will be divided between writing and discussion.
