The goal of this class is for PhD students to grasp the fundamentals of Japanese Management. We will achieve this goal by studying many classic academic texts on this subject that use a variety of methods and approaches.

Class readings must be prepared every week. Each student will have to prepare a presentation on the assigned text and lead class discussion at least once.

・Be able to describe how the concept of Japanese Management has developed in the English literature over the past 40 years.
|
|
|
・Become familiar with some of the more famous theories and case studies of Japanese Management.
|
|
|
50% of the grade will be determined based on the quality of the student’s presentation and facilitation of discussion. The remaining 50% of the grade will be based on the student’s preparation and participation during classes when other students present.

Following discussion with the professor and based on the student’s interests, each student will propose a few core academic papers and book chapters on strategic management that he or she will present during class. The presenter is also expected to facilitate a lively discussion of the text.

Texts will be determined in the first classes and distributed to participants.
