授業の目的  
This course, in which English is a main teaching language, aims at mastering fundamental knowledge of operations management, in particular emphasizing Japanese production and service systems. In addition, this course aims to foster the ability of quantitatively analyzing managerial issues, such as inventory control, demand forecasting, and production planning. Another focus of this course includes the development of communication skills and experience of group work for project. Therefore, several in-class presentations of research idea and existing operations management articles will be assigned to students.

This course is planned to be offered by real-time online teaching using Zoom. However, according to a future pandemic situation of Covid-19 in 2022, teaching style and course schedule are subject to change.

† : Each student is expected to explain the contents of an assigned article on Japanese Production/Service Operations.
If the number of registration is small enough, I will offer a lecture on Risk-Pooling for Week 15

The schedule and teaching style (e.g., online or offline or combination of both) are subject to change, especially, according to the world-wide spread of Covid-19. The first class will explain the details of course schedule and assignments.

Read the assigned reading materials before each class. The materials are downloadable via the YNU’s Learning Management System (LMS). Since the class offers various assignments, such as report submission, paper presentations, and real-world case presentations, the class contents should be carefully reviewed after each class. In particular, students should make a real effort to develop a research idea using a computer simulation method.

•To develop the ability to adequately understand the contents of the academic studies of other researchers.

English is the teaching language of this class.
A sufficient knowledge of manupulating a computer and internet devises is required because this course is planned to be offered as a real-time online classes using MS-Teams and/or Zoom.

Introductory level knowledge of calculus, linear algebra, and statistics.
Experience of basic information technology usage, such as browser, MS-Office
Fundamental knowledge of business administration.
Interests in Japanaese business is strongly recommended.
