This class will be conducted in English. We will study the basics of management strategy from a classic text and some academic journal papers. The goal of this class is to make students be able to recognize and explain basic key words and phrases that are used in the strategy literature. The course consists of three parts: (1) a lecture on the basics of management strategy, (2) presentation and discussion on a case study, (3) presentation and discussion on a journal paper. Before the “lecture” class, students must submit by Tuesday midnight one presentation slide (MS PowerPoint) about the week’s assigned reading material. The slide should show that the student carefully read the text and is deeply engaged with its content. What specifically to put in the slide and the slide’s style is completely up to the student; however, generally speaking, the instructor prefers questions over summaries.
For the “presentation and discussion” class, students who are assigned to be the week’s “Presenter” must prepare and submit by Tuesday midnight presentation slides about the week’s assigned case study (or academic paper). Those students are expected to give their presentation in class, followed by an open discussion facilitated by the instructor. (Note: Presentation is highly likely to be a group assignment)
Students who are NOT assigned to be the “Presenter” and thus“Audience” must submit by Tuesday midnight one presentation slide about the week’s assigned case study (or academic paper). These slides should include questions and discussion topics for the open discussion.
